M is for Marigold

Mrs. Nesbitt's ABC Wednesday Round 4
is now to the letter M.

These photos were taken last summer at my daughter's home in Ontario, Oregon.

Merry marigolds are a sociable plant, happy to mingle with cosmos and other flowers.

but willing to border a walk without assistance.

An individual head is handsome and vase-ready
(although it won't add any fragrance to a room).

Some marigolds are yellow. Some marigolds are orange.

Here they socialize with zinnias.

I love all the flowers, Granny Smith! I can't wait to have some blooming here, too. Marigolds are an under-appreciated flower these days, but they are so dependable, and I like to plant some around the vegetable garden--supposedly, they help to keep away certain pests. And in the fall, you can have MUMS, too!

Like Rose I too love flowers. I so agree that marigolds are under-estimated.

Have removed your first signature with Mr Linky.

Beautiful flowers!
I, too, plant marigolds around the veggie garden in hopes they will keep the bugs away.

Very pretty "M" I think marigolds are a sturdy flower and can blend well with others like you have shown here. Very nice post.

I liked that you called the merigolds sociable. Very pretty choice for the letter M.

Ah, these are wonderfully hued! We had more snow overnight so color is missing here. Totally. Nice post!

I wonder where the name came from. Maybe it has something to do with the Virgin Mary. Or maybe it actually means 'merry'.

My marigolds were a flop last year so I'm hoping this year they'll do better. Yours looks lovely!

Marigold are cheerful as spring sunshine.

Beautiful flowers! I love marigolds because they are so hard working and they keep some bugs out of the garden. But, boy, do they ever smell like a wet dog!!

I love marigolds. When I was young we used to call these "French Marigolds", the common marigolds were the basic calendula type.
They are all very colourful.

I love 'cottage garden' flowers like marigolds! I even love their pungent scent. I think I'll plant some this year. :)

Delightful post! And the photos conjure up summer (when?) and the strange and wonderful aroma of marigolds...a strong memory from my childhood. Thanks for the memories--hope your Easter was wonderful!
