Raw

Intransigence

Take this hideous razored grief
so sharp in every part,
its spines all tipped with poison
and pointed at your heart.

Muffle it with music,
rub it down with prayer,
thrust it out and close the door,
pretend it isn’t there.

Watch closely, though, for treachery
when handling it tomorrow;
a grief is very hard to tame
into a decent sorrow.

That was just beautiful.
I guess it never really goes away, this grief.

Grief is pretty relentless isn't it?
I loved and hated your opening line which said it all "hideous razored grief so sharp..." Mainly because it is so true!

Sadly so true every word. You managed to nail it with such poise!
Big hugs, grief is cutting, and haunting.

Grief has to take its own time to die a slow natural death I suppose!!
Enjoyed the second stanza and all the efforts to get rid of Grief!!
Beautifully crafted and nicely worded.

Oh Granny... this one made me cry :( Every one of your poems is proof that poetry doesnt have to be obscure to be good.

Your words are always so beautifully chosen, and what they say contains so many truisms.
Time heals, they say, and your lovely poems will surely help.

Very, very beautiful Phyllis. You are a gifted poet, not to mention a wise one.

I suppose it never goes away. Rather, the memories become loving companions.

Beautiful and very sad. It doesn't ever go away. I'm sorry.

That was wonderful! So sad, and so well expressed.
