Q is for Quad

Denise Nesbitt's ABC Wednesday round 3 and the ABC Wednesday anthology have marched on to the letter Q.

My husband stands at the entrance to the inner quad of Stanford University (our alma mater) as dusk falls. Students are probably hurrying to dinner and no longer scurry across the quad from class to class. In the background is the magnificent Stanford chapel, disassembled in Italy and shipped to America stone by by stone and tile by tile. It was reassembled as part of the original campus of the university founded by Leland Stanford, the railroad magnate, and his wife, as a tribute to their son, Leland Stanford Junior, who died too young to attend a university.

Oh my goodness. Look at that Chapel. If I would have only known that was there back in 1994 when I took my son there for a World Cup Soccer Game, I would have taken a little detour to see it :0)

The chapel is so lovely. I have some old photos my folks took back in the 1940's when Dad was looking for photo opportunities.
Quad is a perfet Q word.

A perfect letter Q.

Mr. Linky is a little confused this week (you could say he is acting Quirky.)

My ABC Wednesday letter Q post will be up on my blog at 12:01 AM even though Mr. Linky has me listed already.

Hopefully you will revisit my blog tomorrow.

I would never have guessed this chapel is on an American campus--it's lovely! A great idea for Q.

Mr. Linky does seem to be a little confused as Bear Naked said; my post will not be up until after midnight.

What a serene picture! And the architecture looks very ancient. If it were in England I'd say it was Norman. But I'd only be guessing.

Incredible chapel! Very beautiful.. and sad about the Stanford's son.

Plenty of quads down in Cambridge, but none here.

Well dog-gone it, that does it -- I'm just going to have to explore Stanford this weekend... It's something I've always wanted to do...

Nice place.
When reading "quad" I was afraid to see some fourwheel vehicle we see more and more in city where they should not be ( amoto with 4 wheels).

A closeup of this chapel is breathtaking! And thanks for the bit of history about your alma mater, Phyllis.
Are you still riding high after last Tuesday as I am?

I was at Stanford once, but I have to admit it was for a USC vs. Stanford game. I am sure you can guess which team I was rooting for. I invite you to come take a ride on my quad into the Powell River, BC, back country. - Margy

What a striking photo this is, truly captivating. I stood on that spot many years ago while visiting a friend who attended Stanford.

You and your husband are a very 'cool' couple... ;)
