B is for Brazilian Black Beans

Mrs. Nesbitt's ABC Wednesday round 4
was launched last week.
To B or not to B. That is the question this week.

Granddaughter Myrtle has been with us this last week before returning to to Brazil to further her archeological research for her PhD. dissertation. She will receive her degree in June from the University of California Santa Barbara. Above you see a delicious Brazilian dish featuring Black Beans (called feijoada) that Myrtle prepared for us yesterday.

After soaking the Brazilian Black Beans overnight, she stewed them with a generous quantity of onions and garlic...

in a Blue pot over a Blue flame...

then Browned pork...

and added the pork, Browned steak
and plenty of spicy sausage to the Black Beans...

so that her grandfather and I could enjoy it spooned over rice with traditional orange slices and green salad. Yum! It reminded us of happy years we have spent in Brazil. Myrtle also shot these photos of the steps of preparation because she knew I wanted a B entry for ABC Wednesday. What a thoughtful granddaughter!

Black beans are my favorite. We love refried black beans in our burritos. We drive 50 miles to a Mexican store just to buy those beans. We first learned to like them in Belize

I can't say that I have ever tried black beans but eat almost any other kind. Must look out for them.

I've never liked black beans - maybe the ones we get here are not the same.

Your husband seemed to enjoy it, so Blck Beans it is!

PS I would suppose some where translated, but might be difficult to trace today. First stop would be Amazon. Thereafter some good library.

Dianne said that you made her hungry. Though not feijoada, she grew up eating Central American black bean dishes.

The last feijoada I had was at that little restaurant you took us to in Berkeley.

It looks very delicious! If you substitute the beans by peas, you'll get the Dutch peasoup, which I love to have especially on cold winter days!

It appears to be wonderful food for a cold day! And what a brainy family you are!

I loved the black bean over rice too, but could never cook it well. Our granddaughter is still trying to walk. It will be a while she will have a PhD and cook a black bean soup for us.
